A Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) rally in Kwale County was interrupted on Monday after a man whipped former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, twice for dancing with his wife in an erotic manner in the traditional sengenya dance.
Raila, who had turned up for the rally accompanied by Kwale County Governor, Salim Mvurya, got a rude shock after the man sneaked from behind with his 'bakora' while Raila was dancing with his “beautiful” wife.
The angry man, who was carrying a walking stick, whipped Raila two times as his security slept on their job and were taken by surprise with this development.
“Ametoka Nairobi na anakuja Kwale kuniharibia boma,” the furious man, who sneaked from behind, told one of Mvurya's guards who slowly guided him to a crowd on the right side of the podium and told to remain calm and stand there.
Raila, who was embarrassed by the incident, called off the dance as aides wrestled the man to the ground before being led off the grounds with decorum.
“How can you disrupt a Presidential function?” Raila Odinga’s body guards were overheard asking the man as he explained to them that the lady Raila was dancing with was his wife.
The man was warned from any further acts of violence by Raila Odinga’s bodyguards and Mvurya's security team and a plain-clothes police officer who was in a white shirt stood by him until the event was over.
When asked for a comment, Raila Odinga chose to remain mum on the incident.
