There was drama yesterday afternoon at the Naivasha Referral Hospital after members of a sect tried to forcefully take one of their own who was admitted with a kidney problem because of their religious beliefs. Members of the Church of God, who do not believe in medication, stormed the hospital’s ward and wanted to take a 14 year old girl who is undergoing treatment.
They wailed and prayed loudly, others cursing the nurses and threatening them with evil from God for doing something against their religious beliefs. Police had rescued the teen from their house in Kinungi Village where she had been locked up for days despite her condition deteriorating. Her body was swelling and doctors suspect that is as a result of kidney failure.
Naivasha Sub-County Medical Officer, Dr. Oren Ombiro, said that the minor’s body was badly swollen when she was brought in adding that at first she refused to be treated saying that her faith does not allow her to take any medication but they attended to her by force. She is now in a stable condition and is expected to stay at the hospital until she recovers.
